After decades of confusing and sometimes contradictory research (too much alcohol is bad for you but a little bit is good; some types of alcohol are better for you than others; just kidding, it’s all bad), the picture is becoming clearer: Even small amounts of alcohol can have health consequences. Research published in November revealed that between 2015 and 2019, excessive alcohol use resulted in roughly 140,000 deaths per year in the United States. About 40 percent of those deaths had acute causes, like car crashes, poisonings and homicides. Dear Reader, I have never written an essay, or anything else for that matter, which will become apparent should you continue reading. Don’t bother judging my writing skills because I don’t have any, however, I do hope you will feel something. Preaching to the choir is intimidating so please have mercy. The topic of this essay, the baptism of fire and the holy ghost, has been written about by many authors over the years, but rarely, if ever, did any of them claim to have experienced it.
